ASQ: How an ISO Standard is Formed

Abstract
This presentation will
· Reveal the process by which an idea or identified need becomes a standard.
· Discuss the international structure for documentation committees from ISO down through the national mirror committees, e.g., American National Standards Institute.
· Explain some of the jargon/shortcut words (see speaker info below).
· Provide information on how to become involved in the standards process

Brenda Bishop is a retired Process Improvement Consultant with over 30 years of experience in statistics, quality control and problem solving.  She is currently Chair of the ASQ Standards Committee and Chair of the US TAG to ISO TC 69.   Her work experience includes Mead Johnson Nutrition, Unisys Corporation with a work assignment at Scott Air Force Base, Anheuser-Busch, Quaker Oats, Corning Incorporated and G.D. Searle & Company.  She has a master’s degree in statistics from Purdue University and a master’s degree in Pastoral Studies from Loyola Institute for Ministry, Loyola New Orleans. She held several ASQ certifications prior to retirement including CQE, CQA, CRE, CMQ/OE, CQIA, and CSSBB and a master’s certificate in Business Process Management from Villanova University.
