MnSPE: Spring Event 2022 – Stratasys Tour, Ethics PhD, MnSPE Updates, Beer & Pizza Social

MnSPE members and guests are invited to join us for our spring event, featuring some last-minute PDHs prior to the June 30 Minnesota licensed PE renewal, an ethics program, a beer and pizza social. All are welcome.

Registration and event details are below. Space is limited to 30 for the tour. Register early.

Event Overview:

  • 1 – 3:30 PM – Tour at Stratasys, 2.0 PDHs
  • 3:30 – 4 PM – Transfer time to nearby taproom
  • 4 – 5 PM – Ethics program at Boom Island Brewing
  • 5 – 6 PM – MnSPE updates from the board, committee leaders, and the MnSPE lobbyist + social time

Registration Details:

  • PDHs are free for current members | Non-members $60 per PDH
  • $30 fee for all for taproom portion of the event – includes one drink ticket and pizza/snacks
  • Registration options include full event, tour only, and ethics/MnSPE meeting/social only

Program Outline:

Stratasys Tour – Join us for a tour at 3D printing leader Stratasys. The event will include a full group overview, small group tours of the facility, and a Q&A session with Stratasys leaders, including:

  • Pat Carey, senior vice president, strategic growth for Stratasys
  • Jeromy Knapp, Application Engineering Lab Manager, Stratasys
  • Geoff Dybicz, Associate Process Manufacturing Engineer at Stratasys
  • Colton Mehlhoff, Applications Engineer PolyJet

During your visit to Stratasys, the world leader in polymer 3D printing solutions, you will get an inside look at the company’s five additive manufacturing technologies and see how 3D printing is changing lives, enabling supply chain agility, and allowing the world’s largest manufacturers to create without limits. The tour will be led by a team of our application engineers who are using 3D printing on a daily basis to enable our customers to adopt and integrate 3D printing into their business and manufacturing processes.

2.0 PDHs.

Ethics Program – Ethics and beer, the popular MnSPE event, returns! Join longtime MnSPE member Guillermo Gandara, who currently serves on the MnSPE Professional Development Committee, and has previously developed ethics programs for MnSPE. Sip on a beer, and have some pizza and snacks, while Guillermo leads the group through an interactive discussion: TENETS AND DITCHES: A LOOK INTO ENGINEERING ETHICS BEGINNINGS

Speaker Bio: Guillermo F. Gandara EdD, PE, has lived in Woodbury, Minnesota for the past 25 years. He enjoys traveling, reading, and writing about engineering. He is a member of the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers and a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and serves on the society’s Professional Development Committee and enjoys discussions on professional ethics.

Born in Puerto Rico and a graduate with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Engineering School of the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez. Simultaneous with graduation received a commission as an officer in the US Army and served with distinction for over 33 years as an engineer and helicopter pilot with numerous decorations for valor in combat and distinguished service.

He holds graduate degrees from the University of St Thomas in St Paul, MN. He holds an MS in Manufacturing Systems and an Education Doctor degree in Leadership. The dissertation was titled, The Lived Experiences of Professional Engineers in the Making of a Technological Device. He works in the medical device industry as a quality engineer.

Following the ethics session, join MnSPE board members, committee chairs, and our lobbyist, for an update on recent MnSPE activities, and what’s coming in the year ahead. As we wrap up our 2021-2022 year – one with significant updates for current and future members, including the society’s NSPE rejoin – we invite you to join us and learn about what’s coming in the year ahead, opportunities to engage with MnSPE, and to connect with other members of our community. All are welcome, and we encourage members to invite a guest.
