**In Loving Memory of Meena Chettiar

MFESTS Scholarship Chair and MFESTS Distinguished Science & Technology Professional**

It is with profound sadness that the Minnesota Federation of Engineering, Science & Technology Societies (MFESTS) shares the passing of Meenakshi “Meena” Chettiar, a cherished member of our community, advocate for STEM education, and guiding force behind the MFESTS Scholarship program. Meena passed away unexpectedly on November 28, 2025 in Hyderabad, India, at the age of 68.

Meena’s life was defined by curiosity, compassion, and a tireless commitment to helping others reach their potential. Born in Madurai, India, she pursued advanced studies in chemistry and engineering across institutions including the University of Madras, University of Missouri-Kansas City, University of British Columbia, and St. Cloud State University. Her passion for learning later led her to return to St. Cloud State as an instructor, nurturing and inspiring future scientists and engineers.

Throughout a remarkable five-decade career spanning academia, industry, and consulting, Meena built a legacy of excellence and mentorship. She held important roles in both public and private sectors, founded her own consulting firm, and was a respected instructor and subject matter expert with the American Society for Quality (ASQ). In 2015, she was honored as an MFESTS Distinguished Science and Technology Professional in recognition of her professional achievements and service.

A Heart for Service and Community

Meena’s influence extended far beyond her professional accomplishments. Her own journey as an immigrant fueled a lifelong devotion to uplifting others, especially first- and second-generation students navigating the challenges of pursuing education in a new country. She opened her home and heart to countless individuals, offering mentorship, guidance, and the warmth of community.

As the MFESTS Scholarship Chair, Meena infused the program with her belief that access to education transforms lives. She worked passionately to expand opportunities for young people entering STEM fields, particularly those from immigrant and underrepresented backgrounds. Her vision helped shape a scholarship legacy that will continue to support future engineers, scientists, and technologists for years to come.

Remembering an Inspiration

Meena’s legacy is evident in the countless students she encouraged, the professionals she mentored, and the communities she served with spirit and generosity. She balanced brilliant intellect with deep warmth; her home was a place of lively conversation, laughter, rich cultural traditions, and, perhaps most memorably, food shared with friends and family alike.

She is survived by her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, and an extended network of friends and colleagues who carry forward her passion for learning, service, and inclusion.

A Lasting Legacy

In lieu of flowers, Meena’s family has invited donations to youth STEM scholarships through the Rotary Club of Plymouth, reflecting her lifelong belief in empowering learners and builders of tomorrow.

As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate a life richly lived and deeply felt. Meena’s impact on our community, on MFESTS, and on the many lives she touched stands as a testament to her unwavering dedication to others and to the future of STEM in Minnesota and beyond.
